An eye-catching structure that commands very good views over the surrounding hills. The five arms each point to one of the communities which collaborated in the creation – Nelson, Ystrad Mynach, Maesycwmmer, Hengoed, Llanbradach and Gelligaer – directing our attention out to them rather than up to the sky. The ‘wings’ and benches that stem off from each arm incorporate images of local heritage, natural wildlife and recreation that have been developed by children from the local schools.
