With his elder brother Jason, Allison was a druggist in the firm of Allison Brothers, Blanket Row, Hull. He was one of the founders of the Victoria Hospital for Sick Children in Park Street, Hull, the foundation stone of which was laid in February 1890. It was formally opened in July 1891 and closed in 2018. This portrait was painted for the hospital. Allison was elected Sheriff of Hull on 9th November 1887 and is here depicted in the Sheriff's traditional livery.
