The painter, author and broadcaster Adrian Hill studied at St John’s Wood Art School and at the RCA. Hill was an official war artist on the Western Front and also published many books on art, including 'On Drawing and Painting Trees', 'On the Mastery of Water-colour Painting' and 'The Pleasures of Painting'. In the 1950s and early 1960s Hill presented a BBC children's television program called Sketch Club. Hill also contributed to the advantages of art therapy and its uses in the rehabilitation of injured soldiers. These theories were then applied more widely to civilians recovering from long-term illnesses. In 1945 Hill published his theories in the book 'Art Versus Illness' which was the basis on which art therapy grew hand-in-hand with the emerging profession of occupational therapy.
