The sculpture consists of a colossal hand holding up a fountain between fingers and thumb, as though to display it to public gaze. Both hand and fountain were patinated in deep green. The scale of the fountain is minute when compared to that of the hand. The fountain is composed of a male figure supporting an obelisk, in the centre of a basin with scalloped sides. The small figure of Hercules with the obelisk was stolen in 1998.
