This is a brightly coloured painting of 'Guy' in a tropical green background. It is copied from a newspaper photograph. It is inscribed on the front, in lower left corner 'Guy. London Zoo. Age 22. 1968' and signed in the lower right corner 'R. W. Mitchell. M.', the name printed in black paint and the 'M' written in red, Gothic script. A long note, pasted on the back, reads: 'This is Guy, as he was photographed in his cage at the Regent's Park Zoo London. He has been painted about twice the size (?) very carefully from the newspaper cutting of the 'Sunday People' Sept 22 1968 and is exact in form, shape and proportions. I have seen fit, to put him back in natural surroundings, not very good I am afraid, but better than his cage in which he was done.
