A metal sphere with a tilted cap with pointed fins which point to times in raised Roman numerals on a band just below. The sphere rests on a circular metal disc imprinted with the four points of the compass.

plaque: GLOBE SUNDIAL by WENDY TAYLOR 1987 / The sundial is man's oldest astronomical instrument. / The axis of this sundial lies parallel to the axis of the / Earth and thus reproduces, IN MINATURE, THE WAY THE EARTH / IS BATHED IN SUNLIGHT. / In this version the time is indicated by the fin which / casts the light shadow. / Due to a combination of the tilt of the Earth's axis and / the varying speed of Earth's progress on it's elliptical / path around the sun, the indicated time will often differ from mean time, the maximum / being 10 minutes. The greatest difference occurring in / February and October. / One hour must be added to the indicated time during British / Summer Time. / Globe Sundial was commissioned by Swansea City Council who / acknowledge sponsorship from - / Robert & Douglas Holdings P.L.C. / Love Urban Renewal Ltd. / Milner Delvaux Ltd. / Welsh Development Agency / Unveiled by Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Swansea / Councillor H. W. Ayres on the 28th June 1987
