'Glass' was painted at North Corner, the home that by 1923 Dod and her husband, Ernest, had bought in Newlyn. Exhibited in their joint Leicester Galleries show of ‘Recent Paintings’ in early 1935, it demonstrates the softer, more painterly style that Dod adopted in the early 1930s. The decision to paint a selection of glass and ceramic objects may have been loosely linked to Dod and Ernest’s involvement in a project to design schemes for ceramic and glass decorations in the 1930s.
