A maritime theme runs throughout the metalwork designed for Dock Street and Exchange Street. This can be seen reflected in the gate, the shape of a boat pushing through the rippling waves. The entrance gate, balconies, window grilles and air vent grilles all enhance the front elevation. The balconies, window grilles and entrance gate gracing the Dock Street elevation are all slightly different, and the design flows across the front of the building, changing subtly and remaining symmetrical around the entrance gate.
