The Hindu god Ganesha in carved marble, with painted gold, red, and black decoration. An elephant headed figure sitting on a lotus petal pedestal with his legs in the Lalitasana position. Four-armed, his hands hold a pot of rice (lower left), string of prayer beads (lower right), an axe (upper right) and an animal goad (upper left). His trunk coils to his right, and is holding a round golden object. He wears a golden lotus petal crown. There are traces of a gold painted 'third eye' in the centre of his forehead. There is a cobra under his trunk, resting on his belly, and another coiled under his lower left hand, both are symbols of Shiva and a reminder that Ganesha is his son. On the font of the pedestal is a carved depiction of a mouse, this is Ganesha's vahana (vehicle or mount), the mouse Mooshika.
