The fountain is decorated with herons and swans. It fell into severe disrepair and by 2000 all that remained was the lower bowl. £3.3 million from Heritage Lottery Fund, together with £850,000 from Middlesbrough Borough Council was allocated to restore the Park, with the fountain being fully restored in 2003. It was switched on again on 2nd April 2004. Plans are in hand for further restoration of the fountain, as it is badly cracked and frequently switched off.
