A central square-plan plinth with fluted corner pilasters and Egyptian knobbed tops, flanking semi-circular arched recesses which were fitted with lion's head waterspouts, with bowl to the drinking fountain on the east face. Above there are female sphinx-type figurines to the central post which has ladder stops and a faceted glass globe lamp. The gas fittings are still in position. On the north and south faces are two horse troughs (planted in June 1984), with end overflow bowls for dogs. The work was erected to commemorate the Coronation of King Edward VII on August 9th 1902.
