This watercolour is of the main shopping street in St Ives Fore Street. During this time the street contained, among other businesses, a printers, a taxidermist, a butcher, a surgery, an ironmonger and the Star Tea Company. The surgery, the furthest away on the left was that of Sr J. M. Nicholls, JP, who died in 1937. He was mayor of St Ives in 1892 and Medical Officer of Health for over 40 years... Further down on the right, a printing business and stationary shop was run by James Uren White. He moved to St Ives in 1892 and published the first local newspaper the St Ives Weekly Summary. Then there is Leddras chemists with Roach newsagent in the foreground. Source: 'St Ives Then and Now in Colour', St Ives Archive 2014.
