Philip Duthie's abstract and semi-abstract paintings are inspired by his interpretation of the Scottish landscape. His works in the NHS Lothian Collection use a background of strong primary colours and expressive application of paint.

Duthie was born in Aberdeen in 1957 and now lives in Edinburgh. In 1983 he won a Scottish Arts Council Young Artists bursary, and in 1989 was awarded an Amsterdam Studio bursary to spend a year living and painting in The Netherlands. He was subsequently appointed artist in residence at the Grizedale Forest in Cumbria.
