Commissioned in 1869, the fountain was opened on Tuesday 7th February 1871. The hexagonal, raised base is flanked by three flower borders. In its centre a wide shallow bowl on a pedestal supports a high fluted column with four former water outlets. The column has an enriched Ionic capital, surmounted by a rectangular pedestal with a sundial on its south face, and is topped by an urn. There is a lead plaque dated 1870 on the pedestal and a more recent metal plaque on the hexagonal raised base.
