Lalcaca, a Parsi doctor based in Shanghai, was in London in 1909 when Indian Independence activist, Madan Lal Dhingra, assassinated Sir William Hutt Curzon Wyllie at the Imperial Institute. In his attempt to stop the assassination, Lalcaca was shot twice by Dhingra. This bust was erected in recognition of Lalcaca’s actions and was on display at the Imperial Institute until it was transferred to London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine during the 1930s.
