Will Roberts was born in Ruabon, North Wales, and died in Neath, South Wales. Josef Herman was an important influence on his artistic career. Roberts found inspiration in the local community, painting industrial workers, farmers and domestic scenes of family life. Cwmgiedd is a small mining village close to Ystradgynlais, where Herman lived and worked. Some of Roberts' most striking works depict Welsh landscapes and he is now widely acknowledged as one of Wales's modern masters.
