Donald studied at Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art and was awarded a travelling scholarship which allowed him to explore Afghanistan, India and Nepal.
In ‘Colour of Mountains’ Donald uses chine-collé, a technique in which the artist applies areas of paper in varying colours and textures onto the main paper before printing, to create a decorative effect. The work has a strong oriental feel to it partly due to the crane imagery and calligraphic style of mark-making.
