A portrait of Clement Mansfield Ingleby of Valentines, Ilford. Clement Mansfield Ingleby was the only son of Clement Ingleby and his wife Elizabeth Jukes. He married Sarah Oakes of Valentines in 1850 at the Parish Church of Great Ilford and they settled down together at Edgbaston, near Birmingham where they had four children, Arthur, Holcombe, Herbert and Clementina. In August 1859, Clement Ingleby senior died and, some time after that, the family returned to live at Valentines with Sarah’s uncle, Charles Holcombe. Clement Mansfield Ingleby suffered from ill health for most of his life and was educated from home. Despite this he entered Trinity College at Cambridge University when he was 20 years old and took up a career as a solicitor in the family firm for a short time.
