Encased in a memorial-type structure, the 'Shrines' or 'Meditation Boxes' depict an extinct or endangered species of flower bringing into focus the ongoing degradation of our natural environment due to the irreversible impact of one species, the human species.

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, Nature is considered the ‘other’ – cast in a philosophical abyss and Western culture set itself above and apart from it, engendering a long legacy of control and abuse of the natural environment as well as of women who are both devalued and linked in their histories. It ensues that, as flower painting was mainly practiced by women, in art historical terms, it was confined to the lowest ranks as a lesser genre for a lesser artist.
