A rectangular slab has a plinth and moulded top, a bundle of spears with consoles at each end, and a sarcophagus on top. There is a band of regimental medallions, with central plaques to each face and the City Arms to each side, a large wreath above with a central sword. To each corner are plain square blocks. The memorial follows the general form of Lutyen’s cenotaph in Whitehall. It is quite properly much smaller, while having more decorative detail.
