Cecil Collins was the artist's personal tutor when she was a student at the Central School of Art and Design between 1971–1974. She remained in touch with Cecil, attending his drawing classes at the City Lit in Covent Garden as well as becoming a colleague at the Central where she taught relief printmaking from 1979–1993.
