The painting was given as a leaving gift to the grandmother of the donor, Lily Ellison of Great Ryburgh, who was the lady's maid of the Prickett household.
Dorothy married admiral Arthur John Davies in 1916 and her exhibition in New Bond Street in 1925 was praised in 'The Times'. She died lady Dorothy Davies in Hampshire in 1957.
