THOMAS THORNYCROFT SC.; plinth, in gilt lettering: BRIAN HOUGHTON HODGSON. / 1800–1894. / Donor of a large collection of specimens / and drawings of Indian Mammals and Birds. / This bust, executed in 1844 by Thornycroft, / was bequeathed to the Trustees of the / British Museum by Mrs. Brian Hodgson in 1913.
