Larger than life-size figures of Brian Clough, manager of Derby County from 1967 to 1973, alongside his former assistant Peter Taylor. They are depicted holding the league championship trophy which they won in 1972. The pair took Derby County from the second division to first division champions, as well as European Cup semi-finalists in 1972–1973. Placed around the base of the statue, in an area now known as Unity Plaza, are a number of compass points with special connections to Brian Clough. One of them references Nottingham Forest's City Ground. Nottingham Forest was the football club that Brian Clough managed from 1975 to 1993.
