A felt book cover decorated with applied and embroidered stylised plant motif on top side and section through a pear on the reverse; 'Study Folio: Plant Forms'. Book cover British 1960. Made from yellow felt and uses lay and applique a lively way. The cover is further enriched with stitchery and beads. Note the padded effect on the back obtained by applied layers of felt. It is difficult to tell whether the stitching is hand-embroidered fly stitch beautifully worked or zig-zag machine stitching. Designed and embroidered by Margaret Nicholson. Given by the Needlework Development Scheme 1962 (No. 5254).
