Two sculptured figures mounted on pillar with a three-stepped base. A soldier in Boer War campaign dress with rifle, standing guard over a wounded bugler boy lying on ground. The sculptures are set atop a narrowing pillar of pink granite with bronze laurel wreath detail affixed to each side. The borough coat of arms is mounted on a pillar below a wreath on the six o'clock face. Inscriptions and names are gilded onto the pillar pedestal with colonette framing in grey granite. The base is flanked by two 9-pound field guns and surrounded by an iron chain fence. The memorial originally stood where the Guildhall, now Brangwyn Hall, stands.
