The memorial is mounted on an octagonal base, which bears the coat of arms of each archbishop, surmounted by their mitres and inscribed with their names and dates on five sides. The remaining three sides carry the inscription above. The base is topped by eight small crosses, one above each mitre. In front of the vertical cross, on a bracketed pedestal and with a projecting canopy above, is a standing figure of the Good Shepherd carrying a lamb in his arms. On the reverse of the cross is a representation of the Agnus Dei in a circle, around which are the words ‘Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world’. The memorial commemorates five Archbishops of Canterbury who were buried in this churchyard.
