The Falklands Conflict, 1982. HMS 'Antelope', already hit by a bomb when defending San Carlos water, wings an attacking Argentinian aircraft which hits her mast and explodes, cartwheeling onto land in pieces near HMS 'Broadsword'. Later, HMS 'Antelope' succumbed to an unexploded bomb, which led to a spectaular explosion when it did go off. The artist visited the Falklands very soon after the conflict, and made his oil sketches with help from those directly involved.
