The pioneering aviator is depicted at the age of 37 years old, walking with her right arm raised adjusting her goggles on her head as she looks up to the sky. She wears a flying jacket, knickerbockers, hat and goggles. Amy Johnson's plane disappeared off the shores of Herne Bay on 5th January 1941. The sculpture was commissioned to mark the 70th anniversary of her death. The statue was unveiled by HRH Prince Michael of Kent.
