The farmhouse is The Elms at Aberthaw near the RAF station at St Athan, west of Cardiff. It was bombed in 1940 and painted afterwards by Armstrong - a second example is at Bristol Museum and Art Galley - and by Graham Sutherland, at The Wilson, Cheltenham.
