This is the smallest of a number of panels of c.1833–1834. Many elements of the composition can be found in other works of the period: the waggon drawn by a horse, the path winding down the hillside and the timeless figures. The scene evokes Palmer's vision of a pastoral paradise in the English countryside and was one of the last paintings
