Shauna McMullan was born in Northern Ireland in 1971 and is currently based in Glasgow, where she lectures part-time at Glasgow School of Art. To celebrate its 21st birthday, the Glasgow Women’s Library commissioned 21 female artists to make work inspired by their collection. McMullan combed through the donated volumes in the GWL lending library collecting the asterisks and starred marks hidden within the pages. The resulting print brings together these 165 unique symbols in a formalised ‘map’, complete with key, connecting us directly to the hands of these unknown women.
