Sculptor and painter, originally Muriel Bourne, who married the sculptor Sir Charles Wheeler. Lady Wheeler came of an artistic family and studied at Wolverhampton School of Art with her future husband and privately. She worked periodically after their marriage, was a model for her husband and features in his autobiography High Relief. Was elected a fellow of RBS and was president of SWA and Ridley and St James’ Art Societies, exhibiting at RA, NEAC and elsewhere. Her work is illustrated in Eric Newton’s monograph British Sculpture 1944–1946; her Mother and Child is in Newport Museum and Art Gallery; and a lead bust of Sir Charles by her is the National Portrait Gallery. Lived in London and in Sussex at Five Ashes, near Mayfield.
