Artist employing a range of media, including cibachrome and video, born in Birmingham. She studied at Chelsea School of Art, graduating in art and design, 1985–7, with an honours degree in fine art from Goldsmiths’ College, 1987–90. Awards included BT Young Contemporaries, 1993–4. Selected group exhibitions were Empty Gestures, Diorama Art Centre, 1991; British Art Group Show, Le Musée des Beaux-Arts dans Le Havre, and Instruction, at Marconi Gallery, Milan, both 1992; Not Self Portrait, Karsten Schubert Gallery, 1994; Mobius Strip, Basilico Fine Arts, New York, 1995; and British Art Show 4, 1995–6, with tour. Had a solo show at City Racing, 1993, later ones including Western Security, Hayward Gallery, 1995, Maureen Paley/Interim Art from 1996, and Serpentine Gallery, 2000, with a retrospective at Angel Row Gallery, Nottingham, in 2000–1.
