Painter, printmaker, restorer, cartoonist, administrator and teacher, born in in Mold, Flintshire. Brought up in Shotton he went to work in the steel industry but was advised by the painter Sir John Lavery to study art, so went to Chester School of Art under Walter Schroder the landscape painter, then Liverpool School of Art and finally to Italy. In 1926 he set up a studio in Chester and after several appointments became county art organiser for Flintshire. Exhibited RCamA of which he was president for a time, RSA, Manchester Salon, RWA and extensively elsewhere. In 1970–1 had a retrospective at Shire Hall, Mold. From 1961–4 was a member of WAC’s art committee and in 1962–5 a governor of National Museum of Wales, Cardiff. Lived in Hawarden, near Chester.
