Adrian Swales was born in Hull in 1945 and in 1963 completed a foundation year at Hull Art School. Between 1964–1967, he studied at Brighton Art School. He moved to Newcastle in 1973 and has been an oil painting restorer for 40 years, whilst still pursuing a painting career.
