Versatile artist, born in Watford, Hertfordshire, who studied at Suffolk College of Art and Design and eventually settled in Cornwall. His small pictures could be witty and quirky, odd and enigmatic titles being used; or more serious, as in his solo exhibition at Austin/Desmond Fine Art, 1997, based on Seamus Heaney’s poetry. Rees took part in a three-man show at Quay Gallery, Sudbury, 1986; Christmas Show at Wolf at the Door, Penzance, 1988; Rainyday Gallery, Penzance, 1992; The Edge of Beyond, Belgrave Gallery, 1995; and Gordon Hepworth Fine Art, Newton St Cyres, 1996. Other solo exhibitions included Market House Gallery, Marazion, 2002; Badcocks Gallery, Newlyn, 2004; and Trace Elements at Austin/Desmond, 2005, which included assemblages.
