Painter, notably of portraits, born in Ullock, Cumberland, who studied from 1924–32 at Liverpool School of Art with Will Penn, gaining a scholarship to Italy, 1930. He showed at RCamA, of which he became a member in 1932, RA, MAFA, RP and extensively in the north. Completed many commissioned portraits of leading church and academic figures in the Liverpool area, where he lived. Public galleries in Blackpool, Liverpool, Manchester and Southport hold examples.
