Artist in oil, gouache and crayon, and teacher, born in Northampton. He studied at the School of Art there, 1944–9, then at Camberwell School of Art, 1964, with Michael Podro. Went on to teach at North Oxfordshire Technical College and School of Art, Banbury. Pell said that his paintings were “concerned with light and water, the intangibles of objective painting. The changing relationships between sky and sea and the abstracted reflections of forms between interest me.” Pembrokeshire and Cornwall were favourite sketching places. Showed at Leicester and Piccadilly Galleries, RBA of which he was made a member in 1958 and Warwick University. Solo shows included Canaletto Gallery, Bear Lane Gallery in Oxford and Century Art Gallery, Nottingham.
