Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in Dundee, Angus. At Glasgow School of Art from 1924 he was very successful, winning many prizes and gaining a post-diploma scholarship. His meticulous landscape etchings caught the attention of a London print dealer, and in 1928 he acquired an important contract for editions of prints. With the collapse of the print market in the early 1930s Patrick turned to oil painting, but his attention to detail in landscape remained his trademark. He also taught part-time at Dundee College of Art. From 1928 showed at RA and from 1934 at Fine Art Society. During World War II served in Camouflage Corps. Patrick continued to live in Dundee and depict the surrounding area. Was elected RSA in 1957. Key solo shows were held at Dundee City Art Gallery in 1967 and at Dundee, Aberdeen and Liverpool in 1987 and there was a ninetieth birthday celebration at Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, in 1997.
