Painter and teacher, born in Invershin, Sutherland. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art, 1954–8. In the latter year he was winner of the RSA’s Stuart Prize. Between 1958–60 MacPherson was occupied with a postgraduate year and an Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship. In 1966 he won the RSA’s Latimer and Guthrie Awards. MacPherson went on to lecture at Edinburgh College of Art. As well as taking part in group shows at Douglas and Foulis, Demarco and 57 Galleries in Edinburgh, where he lived, MacPherson had solo exhibitions at 57 and Scottish Galleries. Scottish Arts Council holds his work.
