Painter, draughtsman, printmaker and teacher, born in Shifnal, Shropshire, who was married to the artist Esther Borough Johnson. He attended Slade School of Fine Art under Alphonse Legros and the Herkomer School at Bushey, where he was a star student. Was professor of fine art at Bedford College, London University and was for many years head of the art department at Chelsea Polytechnic. Borough Johnson, as he signed himself, exhibited prolifically at RA, RBA, ROI, Paris Salon, where he won several awards in the 1920s, and at many other venues. British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, National Portrait Gallery, provincial and foreign galleries hold his work. The Art of the Pencil and The Technique of Pencil Drawing were two of his several books on draughtsmanship.
