Highly individual painter and draughtsman of portraits, landscapes and still life, born in north Wales, who initially trained with W Beach in Folkestone. A friend of his parents, the painter Théo van Rysselberghe, suggested that Frank should study in Paris at La Palette and with the important theorist and member of the Nabis, Maurice Denis, at L’Académie Ranson. The rather diffident Griffith’s friendships with André Dunoyer de Segonzac, Roger de la Fresnaye and Paul Signac in Paris and in England with the Camden Town Group painters Charles Ginner and Walter Sickert, with whom he studied, helped him develop as an artist. Griffith travelled extensively in England and on the continent. Exhibitions included Baillie Gallery, London Salon, RP and RBA.
