Painter in the Scottish Colourist tradition of landscape and still life, and teacher, born in Paisley, Renfrewshire. He studied painting at Glasgow School of Art, 1966–70, then taught until 1990, when he resigned to paint full-time. In 1991 Edgar was elected a member of the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, also showing at RP, RSA, Fosse Gallery in Stow-on-the-Wold, Richard Hagen Gallery in Broadway and elsewhere. Edgar received many portrait commissions, from bodies such as the University of Glasgow, The Archdiocese of Glasgow and the Royal College of Obstetricians. Had a solo show at Glasgow Art Club in 1977, later ones including Roger Billcliffe Fine Art, Glasgow, in 1996. Paisley Art Gallery and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh hold Edgar’s work.
