
Painter and teacher, born and lived in London. Because of her Quaker origins Ann Dent did not attend any school. She studied at Coventry School of Art, 1940–2; St Martin’s School of Art, 1942–3; Central School of Arts and Crafts, 1946–7; and École des Beaux-Arts, 1948–9, in Paris, her teachers in London including Rodrigo Moynihan, Ruskin Spear and Robert Buhler. From 1943–6 during World War II she worked in the government codes and ciphers section at Bletchley. She went on to teach at Colet Court Boys’ School and Kensington High School for Girls. Exhibited RA, LG and Chelsea Art Society, of which she was a council member, also being arts adviser to Chelsea Festival. Studies of people made in Calcutta, India, and of cherry blossom in Japan were important.
