Artist and teacher working in an often unconventional range of materials. He was influenced by Pop Art and Dada and while his work appears abstract it hints at everyday objects and appearances. Born in Leicester, Buckley studied at University of Newcastle upon Tyne, 1962–7, then Reading University, 1967–9. He taught at Canterbury and Leeds Colleges of Art and Chelsea School of Art, 1969–71; was artist-in-residence at King’s College, Cambridge, 1972–4; and was visiting tutor at Royal College of Art, 1976 and 1986. After showing in Six at the Hayward, Hayward Gallery in 1969, Buckley had a one-man show at Nigel Greenwood in 1970. He was a John Moores Exhibition, Liverpool, prizewinner in 1974 and 1979. Collaborated with Rambert Dance Company, 1988–90.
