Landscape and portrait painter, notably of English, French and Italian scenes, influenced by both the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. After studying painting and lithography at Bournemouth School of Art and obtaining his postgraduate teaching qualification at the University of Southampton he taught art, latterly being head of art at Hardye’s School, Dorchester, then in 1997 retired to become a professional painter. Bowman’s work of the 1960s developed along largely abstract lines, drawing inspiration from the relationship between the female human form and organic shapes underlying the Dorset landscape. From 1973, lived in Stratton, near the River Frome, one of his expanding sources of inspiration. Was included in the 1999 Christmas Exhibition at The Jerram Gallery, Salisbury.
