Creator of bookworks, using a variety of materials ranging from chunks of wood to snail shells. They wittily commented on popular culture and family life, inviting the viewer to “Please touch”. Did a foundation course at Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry, 1981, then obtained an honours degree in graphic design at London College of Printing, 1982–5. Bicknell’s residencies included Alnwick Fair, Camden Junior Arts Festival, Morton Hall Prison and Blackburn Museum. He carried out commissions for North Kesteven District Council and Scunthorpe Borough Council. Among positions held were part-time teaching at Lincolnshire College of Art and Humberside Art College. Took part in many group shows, including Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, 1988, in Rubberstamps and Concrete Verse; and Small Presses, at New York Center for Book Arts, 1989.
