Painter and teacher, born in Beckenham, Kent, married to the artist Ann Arnold. He was one of the seven founders of The Brotherhood of Ruralists, in 1975, which had its first show at RA in 1976. Arnold studied at Beckenham School of Art, 1947–52, and at Royal College of Art, 1955–8. He was awarded a painting scholarship to Italy, 1958–60. For a dozen years from 1961 he taught at Ravensbourne and Kingston Colleges of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. His group contributions included Gimpel Fils, 1955; LG, 1962; Chichester National Art Exhibition, 1975, where he gained major prize for painting; Fischer Fine Art, 1976. Solo shows included Brillig Arts Centre, 1979; David Paul Gallery, Chichester, 1982; Piccadilly Gallery, 1983; and a retrospective at The Tabernacle Cultural Centre, Machynlleth, 1992, with a seventieth birthday show there, 2002.
