The Pickaquoy Centre is renowned as a first class sports, arts, leisure and conference facility but it is also well-known for the huge variety of activities that provide enjoyment for all ages and abilities.
This £8.5 million Millennium Project is Orkney’s largest community and leisure facility. The Centre has proven to be an integral part of the community by hosting world renowned arts festivals, music events, exhibitions, conferences and sporting competitions. A further development consisting of a swimming pool and squash courts is currently in progress and is due to open in the summer of 2012.
The Pickaquoy Centre has three paintings by Matilda Tumim, located around the building in areas where they will particularly catch attention. Commissioned specifically for The Pickaquoy Centre, and on long-term loan from the artist, these oil paintings are: ‘Ballad’, ‘Hearts And Minds’ and a triptych entitled ‘Passiflora’.
The Pickaquoy Centre is open to the general public between the hours of 7am–10pm (Monday–Friday) and 10am–8pm (Saturday & Sunday). Please contact 01856 879900 or visit www.pickaquoy.co.uk for further information.
